WAKIZA MOUGOULY: the story of an aphrodisiac liqueur rooted in tradition

WAKIZA MOUGOULY on a padded background

Long before it became a bottled liqueur, MOUGOULY already existed in another form: traditional plant-based preparations, passed down through generations, renowned for their tonic and aphrodisiac properties.

In many West African families, certain plant combinations — cola, ginger, bark, roots — have long been known for their stimulating and energizing effects. This knowledge, often passed down orally, rarely documented commercially, nonetheless constitutes a considerable botanical and medicinal heritage.

From family preparation to manufactured product

WAKIZA MOUGOULY was born from the desire to give a modern, consistent, reliable form to this traditional knowledge. Moving from an artisanal preparation, whose dosage and taste vary from one family to another, to a standardized, controlled, reproducible manufactured product — without losing the soul of the original recipe.

This work took time. We had to identify the most relevant plants, calibrate their combinations, stabilize the product in the bottle, all while preserving the bold character and aromatic intensity that make these traditional preparations so renowned.

A variant designed for everyone

Aware that not everyone drinks alcohol, we also developed WAKIZA MOUGOULY S.A. — an alcohol-free version that keeps the same plants and the same tonic aromatic profile, in a can, to reach a wider audience: athletes, people out for the evening who don't drink alcohol, or simply fans of natural energizing drinks.

"Our recipes draw on the botanical richness of West Africa. Valuing these treasures means valuing our identity." — Our CSR Policy

A liqueur that tells a shared story

MOUGOULY is not just a recipe. It's a way of honoring popular knowledge often relegated to oral tradition, by giving it the rigor and presentation of an internationally-manufactured product. Every bottle carries, in its own way, the story of these preparations that so many West African families know, yet that no brand had ever taken the time to value this way.
